A truly wonderful design piece, and one of my favourite pieces, is this hand-built wood fired twin handled studio pottery vase of sculptural form dating from the 20th century. The stoneware vase is heavily potted with what appears to be layers of clay added by hand over a wheel through vessel. The vase has a wide rounded lower with a funnel shaped upper body with a wide folded in rounded neck. Crudely shaped loop handles have been applied to the side of the body and the vase combines elements of glazed and unglazed areas with red, yellows and browns to one side and with textured blackened glazes particularly dominant to one side of the vase, similar to lava glazes. There are also elements of these rough cast glazes to the neck of the vase. The vase has an incised EB mark to the lower body which we have been unable to identify.
The vase came with a collection of similar pieces and all had small collection numbers attached to the bases.
In good condition.
