A truly wonderful design piece, and one of my favorite pieces, is this hand-built wood fired gourd shaped studio pottery bottle vase of sculptural form dating from the 20th century. The stoneware vase is heavily hand potted with a hand coiled body pinched in the middle to form a gourd shape. The vase has a narrow bottle shaped neck and wide bowl shape top. The vase is decorated in brown and grey glazes over a roughly textured body with burst bubbles within the glaze. Matt lava style glazes have been run down the body to one side with an accumulation of glazes to the top and neck. The vase has an indistinct incised mark partially visible to the lower body but covered by the run glazes and has a collection number attached to the base.
The vase came with a collection of similar pieces and some retaining collection numbers attached to the bases.
In good condition.
