A very fine and unique, fresh to market, stoneware studio pottery tile shaped panel hand painted with nude figures titled Europa & The Bull by renowned ceramic artist Eric James Mellon (British, 1925-2014) and dated 2005.

Trained at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in the 1940’s Eric is more renowned for his figurative work, often including nudes decorated with ash glazes.

The stoneware panel is of rectangular shape and is hand decorated in ash glazes and painted to the front with a naked lady being startled by a naked man holding a mask of a bull over his face. The figures are set within a simple landscape with a tree. The panel is painted predominantly in shades of blue and brown on a white ground with orange highlights and is signed along the edge with the customary running fox mark and is dated 2005. It is numbered 19 and is also titled EUROPA & THE BULL.
