A fine large Blackfriars Pottery studio bowl with a horizontal linear pattern and decorated in blue glazes by Derek Smith (British, 1931-2019) and dating from the 20th century. The heavily hand thrown round shaped bowl stands on a narrow unglazed round foot and has an incised horizontal linear pattern to the lower outer body, the lines roughly painted in black with a brown stain applied to the surface. The inner bowl and upper edge are decorated in blue glazes with a slight contrasting line running through the glaze. The bowl has an incised mark within the pattern to the side of the bowl and is impressed DEREK SMITH BLACKFRIARS POTTERY to the base.
In good condition with small elements within the linear pattern where the black has not been applied with a few small nicks to the linear edging.
