A very stylish English large studio pottery twin handled bowl decorated with abstract swirl and linear designs by David Melville dating from the 20th or early 21st century. The heavily potted stoneware hand thrown bowl is of wide rounded shape with a flattened wide rim incorporating carrying handles to either side with pinched terminals and with small stylized floral impressed designs to the underside. The inner bowl is decorated with linear patterns in light brown with tenmoku edging framing a swirl design applied to the base in red again with tenmoku edging set against a turquoise green ground. The body of the bowl is decorated in rich brown glazes with lighter brown linear designs around the top edge and to the handles. The bowl has an unglazed base with an impressed makers seal mark.
