A Lowerdown Pottery studio pottery vase decorated with a stylized berry design by David Leach (British, 1911-2005) and dating from around 1956. The rounded bulbous flagon shaped vase stands on a narrow rounded flat base with the usual combed patterning with a short narrow neck and opening. The stoneware vase is hand decorated with stylized stems in blue bearing orange berries with simple line patterns applied around the body and neck of the vase with the vase decorated in natural clear glazes. The upper neck decorated with tenmoku glazes. The vase has an impressed Lowerdown Pottery mark to the lower edge and a brown stenciled DL mark to the base suggesting that this is an early example made in 1956 or shortly after the formation of the pottery at Lowerdown.
