A very stylish, rare unique mid-century English hand beaten 'Staybright' presentation bowl on stand designed by Stanley Watson for Lakeland Rural Industries around 1955. The bowl of wide rounded shape is hand beaten and formed from a single metal sheet, delicately planished and mirror polished with a raised center with engraved designs. The bowl has a folded back rim with a pinched design repeated around the edge. The bowl comes with a fitted oak stand with a hallmarked silver plated band. The bowl has impressed makers marks to the base including STAYBRIGHT STEEL and HAND BEATEN.

Stanley Watson was a pioneer walker and climber who in the 1930's had established the first climbing school in the Lake District. In the early 1950's, as a follower of Keswick School of Industrial Art, he joined the Lakeland Craftsmens Guild, training as a woodworker and metalsmith, and consequently formed his own company Lakeland Rural Industries in Cumbria. 'Staybright' was the trade name of the specially made Firths of Sheffield stainless steel, used both by Keswick School of Industrial Arts and Lakeland Rural Industries.

In good condition with rubbing to the plated rim on the stand.
