An unusual pair Arts & Crafts counter balanced brass candlesticks attributed to Benham & Froud and believed to have been made for use on an upright or grand piano dating from around 1890. The candlesticks are very reminiscent of a design by Christopher Dresser and made by Benham & Froud and also later made by renowned German metal worker Carl Deffner. The candlesticks rest on a large filled and weighted ball end with an S shape scroll support with a candle holder and large was drip tray attached to the end. A further tripod like twin legged stand is applied to the centre of the candlestick allowing the candle holder to extend freely over an edge and would consequently be able to cast light over the piano keyboard. Both candlesticks have worn impressed makers marks.
