A rare and very finely made antique Wedgwood tri-color jasperware biscuit jar applied with silver plated mounts dating from the 19th century. The stoneware jar stands raised on a narrow round foot and is of wide rounded shaped with a concave central band and applied with a silverplate top rim with recessed cover and swing handle. The body of the jar is decorated in tones of lilac, green and white with a lilac colored lower and upper body with a central panel set between a simple raised white border applied with classical figures within a continuous landscape with trees and potted shrubs and a sheep and peacock. The figures comprise of classical ladies in flowing gowns with one with a while and with winged putti in various activity. The scene is applied in a white slip and is very finely detailed and applied against an olive-green ground. The top edge is applied with a border of white slip acanthus leaves. The biscuit jar has an impressed WEDGWOOD mark to the base.
