Dimensions:
A charming and fine quality continental bronze sculpture of a collier with a coal trolley, probably Austrian and dating from around 1900. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base with two rail tracks to either side and with a man in period costume leaning on a four wheeled trolley. The sculpture is well cast with excellent detail and retains a wonderful natural aged patina. The base has a serrated edge to four sides and it was suggested that this may have been a piece made as a match and taper holder with a striker edge. However the quality does not seem to match this purpose. Regardless it is a wonderful piece and an interesting display item. The sculpture is not marked.
