A good quality antique Sri Lankan copper and brass betel lime box with silver inlay and floral applications dating from the 18th or 19th century. Known in Sri Lanka as a Killotaya the box is of flattened round form with an ornate scroll work hinged clasp. The box is made in copper with brass hinges decorated with floral designs and feathered edging. The copper is inlaid with silver star patterned designs to both sides.

The box was used to hold and carry lime which was locally known as chunam and was mixed with areca nut and then chewed.

The round box opens on a hinge to reveal the contents and is heavily and well made with the clasp holding the box securely closed. Probably a pocket size piece. The box is not marked.
