An exceptional antique Japanese Meiji Kutani porcelain small vase of double gourd form hand painted with birds and dating from the 19th Century. This finely made vase stands on a narrow round foot with a recessed base and has a double rounded body with a slender section separating the upper and lower body with a funnel shaped top. The lower body is of wide rounded shape while the upper section is significantly smaller and the whole is hand painted in typical Kutani palette with extensive and very fine floral designs in colored enamels with birds to the larger section and with smaller landscape painted panels to the smaller section and set within an orange patterned ground, the whole highlighted with fine gilding. With red painted Kutani mark to the base of the vase.
