A very fine Chinese Qing Yixing red clay melon shape teapot and cover with integral strainer dating from the 19th century. The teapot is of rounded melon shape with vertical partitions around the body and with a ear shaped handle and short pouring spout with single internal hole. The teapot has a lift out integral cylindrical shaped strainer for holding tea leaves with a fitted recessed cover with a rope twist design applied around the top and ribbed ball kno. Unusually the strainer is in very good condition and the majority of these tend to suffer damage from use. The teapot has an unusual impressed mark to the base.
