A fine antique Chinese coral glazed porcelain brush washer or inkwell decorated with a bamboo sprig and dating from the early Guangxu reign 1875-1908. The finely made brush washer is of squat round shape standing on a narrow round unglazed foot and with a narrow slightly raised opening. The white porcelain body of the brush washer is decorated with a coral glazed ground with a simple loosely painted bamboo sprig in gold, with remnants of gold to the top rim and painted black to the inside rim leading us to believe that it may have been used for ink. The piece is not marked.
Provenance: acquired from the British Art market.
There are a couple of tiny glaze chips to the top rim.
