The bookends are heavily made in terracotta clay of L shaped form and mounted with a stylized standing Marabou Stork like bird with a long beak and hanging neck skin. The bookends are glazed in black over a bright green ground with the birds similarly glazed but with the wings and hanging necks left unglazed and applied with white spots of thick white glaze. The bookends are not marked.
