A stylish and iconic John Beswick midcentury pottery 'tennis set' decorated in the prancing horse design dating from circa 1960. The set comprises of an oversized saucer plate with a square recess to hold the tea cup and with space in front to hold sandwiches or cakes. The plate has a shaped rim with four handle like elements and is decorated with two prancing horses which make a direct link to their well-regarded equestrian figures. The cup is similarly decorated both with grey elements to the handles. Both are printed with black maker’s marks to the bases.

In good condition with some fine glaze age crazing as is normal with such pieces.
