A rare and unusual antique late Victorian wooden novelty coffin shaped snuff box dating from the latter 19th or early 20th century. The hard wood carved snuff box has a studwork patterning to the top with a blank cartouche and with carrying handles applied to either end. The top swivel on a single pin to reveal a small handwritten inset plaque reading YOU’RE A TRICKY CHAP TAKE A PINCH THEN FIND THE MAN WHO TOOK TOO MUCH. The plaque located in the top section slides on two locator screws to reveal the removable wooden body of the man. The bottom of the coffin has a further cover which swivels on a screw and opens to reveal the snuff compartment. The snuff box is not marked.
