An unusual and well made mid-century earthenware glazed grotesque plaque by S & B Evans & Sons, Earthenware Potters, London. The heavily made plaque is hand crafted and molded in red terracotta earthenware in high relief and depicts a horned face wearing a crown, possibly the Greek god Pan. The plaque is of raised rounded form with a shaped edge and is decorated in contrasting brown glazes with a underside left unglazed. There is a small hanging hole applied to the back the plaque has clear makers marks reading S & B EVANS & SONS EARTHENWARE POTTERS LONDON E8. A good quality and interesting decorative item.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition.
