An iconic mid-century Italian Aureliano Toso (Est. 1938) Oriente art glass vase by renowned Italian painter and designer Dino Martens (Italian, 1894-1970).

Dino Martens was particularly noted for his glass work and trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti. Despite his leaning towards glass design as a painter he exhibited at the Venice Biennale between 1924 and 1930. After serving in Italy’s African war he returned to Venice to take up the position of Artistic Director of the famous Venetian glass works Aureliano Toso. He worked there for many years and used traditional Venetian techniques in glass making to produce many noted and challenging works.

This stunning vase is probably one of the most iconic designs produced by Dino Martens. The tall heavily blown vase is of square form and is made in cased glass enclosing bright red, yellow, blue white glass with contrasting black and gold aventurine with other elements and incorporating the ‘pin-wheel’ for which the Oriente design is well known. The vase has a flat ground foot with recessed polished pontil and is beautifully made and typically not signed.
