A rare and unusual German Jugendstil twin grotesque handled lacquered copper bowl decorated in relief with frogs by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) and dating from around 1900. The large squat rounded bowl stands raised on a narrow round molded foot and has a narrow raised rounded opening with a brass rim. The bowl has grotesque creature handles with their heads resting on a leaf shaped base with a long slender body raised and forming a loop handle with four paws on the leaf and a long tail hanging down the body of the bowl. The bowl is molded in relief with a frog standing in what appear to be large lily leaves preparing to catch an insect. The handles perhaps are mimicking creatures waiting to catch the frog. The bowl has red lacquered finish and has a running ostrich mark impressed to the base.
The bowl presents well however has some green Verdigris surface wear which we have not tried to clean and with extensive Verdigris to the inside bowl from use.
