A very fine and unusual early Torquay Terracotta Company vase decorated with a classical female figure dating from around 1875. The vase stands raised on a round pedestal foot with narrow stem, the conical shaped body narrowing to a simple round opening. The body of the vase has a simple raised linear band set between two black painted lines and set to the widest point at the bottom of the body. The body of the vase is decorated in black outline with a classical maiden in the Greek style, partially naked and clad in a diaphanous robe and holding a dagger raised in her right hand with a beast at her feet. The vase is not glazed and simply decorated with black elevating all the edges. The vase has an early impressed TORQUAY mark to the base along with some painted marks.
