A rare and stunning Austrian Art Nouveau enamel panel decorated with a seated winged naked young woman by renowned and acclaimed artist Johanna Meier-Michel (Austrian, 1876-1945) and dating from around 1900.

Johanna Meier-Michel worked for both Goldscheider and Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstatte and is probably best known for their ceramic figures, particular of ladies although also designed several other figurative pieces.

This superb plaque is of rectangular shape and hand decorated with colored enamels portraying a young winged naked girl sat on a rock next to the sea, her wings open with flowers growing around her feet and the base of the rock. The portrayal has a romantic style using softened colors and with a bold sky and brighter metallic enamels for the wings and sea. The plaque is signed J MEIER-MICHEL along the edge.

Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market.

In good condition with wear associated with age and use and the back with signs of having been mounted.
