An unusual Art Nouveau Wardle twin handled vase hand painted in pate-sur-pate with large ‘Moonlight Poppies’ by renowned Arts & Crafts Movement ceramicist Frederick Hurten Rhead (English, 1880-1942) and dating from around 1900. This finely earthenware vase stands on a narrow rounded pedestal foot with a wide rounded bowl shaped lower body with a stepped edge and a conical shaped upper body with a small rounded bowl shaped top. The vase is applied with small leaf style handles to the lower body and is hand painted with large illuminated poppy flowers on trailing leafy stems on a dusky blue and green ground. An exquisite vase with impressed WARDLE ENGLAND marks to the base and incised R17B.

In good condition with customary aged glaze crazing.
