An unusual Doulton Lambeth Art Deco stoneware tobacco jar and cover decorated with patterned designs by Ethel Beard and Joan Honey and dated 1925. The jar has the feel of heavy porcelain with the round bodied jar raised on a pedestal foot with molded handle designs to either side of the body. A domed cover with a pinched and shaped handle sits neatly within the top recess. The body of the jar is decorated with scroll and linear patterning in brown tenmoku like glazes on a pale grey, green and blue ground. The jar has various impressed and incised marks to the base including artist marks and a date mark for 1925.
