Doulton Lambeth salt glazed silver mounted wicker basket mustard pot
An unusual and scarce Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic movement silver mounted stoneware mustard pot modelled as a wicker basket by Elsie S Thomas and dated 1881. The exceptionally well made mustard pot stands on a round unglazed foot the wide round body incised with a basket weave pattern. The pot is mounted with a silver rim with incised patterning and with two small twist handles to either side with a hinged cover of similar design to the body and with a spoon cut out. The pot comes complete with a matched silver spoon. The silver rim has London silver assay marks for 1882 and makers marks for George Gray while the spoon is of the same London date but made by Henry John Lias & James Wakely. The mustard pot has impressed Doulton Lambeth marks to the base along with impressed artist marks and is dated 1881.
