An exceptional and rare French Vallauris twin handled majolica vase hand painted with classical style figures by Delphin Massier and dating from around 1890. This tall and elegant slender vase is lightly potted with a rounded bulbous body tapering slightly as it rises with amphora style handles either side of a funnel shaped neck. the body of the vase is elaborately painted with classical style figures with central maidens to either side set below an arch way with two small cherubs defending from serpent like creatures. The vase is decorated with garlands with various winged and other figures and with small oval cartouches painted below the handles and with a yellow ground area painted to the neck containing serpent like creatures. The vase is painted in colored enamels on a cream colored ground with light turquoise glazes to the inner vase and with painted decoration to the handles. The vase is signed Delphin Massier Vallauris AM to the base.
