A rare Arts & Crafts Craven Dunnill lustre glazed art pottery vase designed by Lewis Foreman Day (1845-1910) and dating from circa 1890. This finely made hexagonal shaped vase is of tall shaped with each of the six sides slightly curved and each embossed around the top rim in Latin with a phrase reading 'By Virtue of the Force of Art' the lettering is picked out in black with the glazes over a thicker yellow lustre glaze which has been applied over a pale blue or green ground. The vase has embossed makers marks to the base CRAVEN DUNNILL JACKFIELD SALOP ENG to the base.

Offered in fine condition with typical age crazing to the glazes.
