A delightful Austrian terracotta hand-painted figure of a seated puppy dog dating from the late 19th century. This charming small dog is portrayed in a seated position and resting on its front paws with long floppy ears, recessed eyes and open mouth and has a wonderful and endearing facial expression. The dog has a textured finish to the body imitating its coat and is hand painted in tones of brown with naturalistic black tones to the eyes and red painted to the mouth. The dog has an impressed 1987 number mark to the base.
Provenance: acquired in the British art market.
The dog has a restored rear leg and tail and some minor chipping around the lower sections and wear associated with age. Still a wonderful display piece for the collector.
