An unusual and large William Brownfield & Sons Aesthetic Movement majolica style pottery carp jug most probably designed by Christopher Dresser and dated 1879. The large red earthenware jug is formed from two entwined large carp in the Japonesque style the mouth of one forming the upper lip and pouring spout and the other head forming the lower body. An ornate scroll work handle is applied to the side. The jug is decorated in majolica style dark terracotta glazes and has various impressed marks to the base.
