A fine early and unusual Minton majolica art pottery ale jug decorated with relief fruiting designs dating from 1866. The finely made pottery jug is of round bulbous shape with a pinched neck and shaped pouring and with a traditional twig formed handle. The jug stands on a wide round foot with rope twist styled edging with the body applied in relief with trailing branches containing hops and hand painted in tones of yellow, green and brown against a brown ground with a hand textured finish. The jug has the customary turquoise glazes applied to the inner body and base. The jug has impressed MINTON makers marks along with reference number 3128 and also bears a date mark for 1866.
