A scarce and unusual John Wesley commemorative black printed saucer size plate probably sold as a fund raising item for the Wesleyan Methodist Centenary Appeal in 1839. The plate features black transfers on a white ground with a central portrait framed within an inscription reading JOHN WESLEY MA BORN AT EPWORTH JUNE 17 1703 DIED IN LONDON MARCH 2ND 1791. This is set with a decorative border of floral arrangements, doves carrying sprigs and titled images of the Centenary Hall in Bishopsgate, London. The plate is printed with a mark to the base including the word CENTENARY.
