RESERVED

A rare and exceptional Doulton Lambeth art pottery vase decorated with a continuous landscape with grazing cattle by renowned artist Hannah B Barlow and dating from around 1905. The elegantly shaped vase stands on a narrow round foot with a recessed base with a wide round lower body and tall wide shaped funnel neck with a short-folded back rim. The vase is decorated with incised petals around the lower body painted in tones of blue, green and brown and with a continuous finely incised and highlighted scene of grazing cattle set against a faintly outlined mountainous landscape. The scene includes six cows with a grassy landscape picked out in blue against a brown salt glazed ground. The inner vase has a mottled blue glazed finish. The vase is marked to the base with Doulton Lambeth marks and with a monogram for Hannah B Barlow assisted by Florrie Jones and with an indistinct date letter mark in a shield which we believe might be an f dating the vase to 1905.
