An unusual and attractive English Aesthetic Movement porcelain cabinet plate decorated in relief with a bird perched on a flowering Hawthorn stem made in Burslem by EJD Bodley and dated January 1879. This finely made plate is of simple round form with a slightly raised edge and is molded in relief with large flowering hawthorn stem with flowers and buds with a bird perched on a branch and watching a butterfly flying below. The raised decoration has been hand painted in deep blue colors and highlighted with gilding with the flowers and buds, the butterfly fully gilded. The plate has a decorative gilt pattern to the rim. The plate has a painted design pattern number 166 along with a painted registration mark dating the plate to January 1879.
