A rare and unusual antique English large salt glazed stoneware jug modelled a a thatched cottage by Brampton and dating from around 1820. The six sided jug stands raised on a molded base with six shallow molded feet the body with incised brick work designs with two windows and a door repeated to both sides. This is set below a thatched roof with a further small window and applied with trailing ivy in low relief. The jug has a raised textured twig shaped handle and a large raised pouring spout and is decorated with brown coloring under a salt glazed finish. The jug has further texturing around the base and top of the jug. As is typical with these types of ware the finish is crisp and well detailed although the jug is typically not marked.
In good condition with a couple of minor surface glaze chips.
