An exceptional and rare Arts & Crafts framed needlework of a young girl with sheep dating from the latter 19th Century. The needlework is very finely crafted, probably in silk, and portrays a young seated girl in period costume and wearing a bonnet within a mountainous landscape with trees and flowers and a meandering river holding a gate open to a flock of sheep. She holds flowers and grass in one hand and feeds it to one of the sheep. The scene has a rope border and is mounted in an original arts and crafts period round hand carved oak frame carved with Celtic knot designs. The needlework has an original paper label to the back reading ‘Worked by Mrs Delpratt Harris Exeter after a Wheatley Print’. After the work of renowned English portrait and landscape painted Francis Wheatley RA (1747-1801). A wonderful and unique piece retaining excellent original color and vibrancy.

Provenance: acquired in the British art market.

An exceptional example in good condition.
